Rosie came to my pregnancy yoga classes in Dartford, after being recommended by her sister Daisy – who had been with me in class over two pregnancies. Rosie’s birth story shows that even when the birth plan changes, with the right support you can still have a great birth experience.
I was booked for an induction on Friday 13th February due to the low Papp A I was diagnosed with, which was a week before my due date. We got asked to go into hospital at 4pm on the Friday. By 6.30pm they had examined me and started to induce me using the rods method.
The following morning, at around 9am they examined me when removing the rods and advised I was ready to have my waters broken, but that I would have to wait until a bed became available in the delivery suite. Unfortunately due to emergencies, and a busy weekend, we didn’t get taken to the delivery suite until Sunday 11am. (Two days after we arrived).
Once we arrived on the delivery suite I had my waters broken by the midwife, we went for a nice walk and lunch at Costa and were told to return to the suite in two hours. Whilst having lunch I had started contracting which was a good sign, and once examined I was advised I was 4cm so everything was going well. At this point they advised they would put me onto the hormone drip, I requested the epidural before this happened. Once hooked up to the hormone drip it was a waiting game.
Although I had the epidural connected I hadn’t pressed the top up at all at this stage. We could see my contractions were getting more regular, but with breathing I managed each one. At about 10pm they advised I was 7cm (at this point I had started using the epidural) but the midwives needed to slow the drip down as baby’s heart rate was slightly increasing.
Unfortunately babies heart rate didn’t settle and kept increasing, even with the drip decrease, I began to shake and my temperature was rising. After a visit from the doctor they advised babies heart rate was staying too high and since I was still only 7cm we would have to be taken down for an emergency c section.
This really wasn’t what I wanted, but my babies health was much more important than the natural birth I planned. Our surprise Little boy Rory arrived at 00:46am on Monday 16th February weighing 7lb 1.
Unfortunately we both had an infection and had to stay in hospital for 5 days but finally got home on Friday evening. The staff at Darenth Valley were amazing and I couldn’t fault any of the services we received, especially from special care who looked after Rory throughout our stay.
Thank you for all your help and advice throughout pregnancy yoga and I can’t wait to come back to mum and baby yoga as soon as I’m fully recovered.
